Things to do in Muir Woods

Muir Woods National Monument protects one of the few old-growth coast redwood groves left near a major American city, about 30-45 minutes by car from San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge into Marin County.

Entry runs $15 per adult 16 and over, and every vehicle needs a timed-entry parking or shuttle reservation booked in advance online, since the small lot fills daily and there is no walk-up option.

The main loop along Redwood Creek is under 2 kilometres, flat and paved, doable in under an hour, while longer connecting trails climb toward Mount Tamalpais for a half-day out. Unlike Sequoia or Redwood National Park further north, this is a single, compact grove, not a multi-day park.
